As regular readers know, there will be a contest each month on OneYearOneCanadian.ca. Last month I gave away an MEC gift card.
This month, courtesy of the good people at Tilley Endurables, I’m giving away a hat. In fact, the winner gets a hat of their choice from the Tilley website. I note, in addition to the traditional out-and-about traveling hats, they’ve got a nice I’m-an-Irish-gentleman-or-hipster cap and even a ball-cap. All their hats are designed and manufactured in Toronto.
How do you win one of these chapeaus? Simply leave a comment answering this question: what is your favourite piece of Canadian clothing?
You can define ‘Canadian clothing’ as broadly as you like–there are no wrong answers. Given that it’s already February 15, I’m going to run this contest through March 10, and then randomly draw a winner.
UPDATE: I had a couple of colleagues randomly choose numbers, and I combined them (for, you know, further randomness). Congratulations to Deryck, who’s won himself a Tilley hat!
Mukluks!
Tuques!
My Lillie & Cohoe hemp hat with an ear hugger band. Made in Nelson, B.C.
Red plaid work jackets.
Red Serge
My Tilley Hat.
Do Mary Maxim sweaters count? Sure, the yarn is probably from china, but they are an East Coast standard.
Quite simply, my birthday suit! 100% Canadian made
Lululemon!!!!
Does Roots still count as Canadian??
A toque is a hat. If a toque is one hat whats a threque?
A toque is stylish & trendy but also practical and useful. Its definitely the best.
This might attract a little flak but;
my big giant red roots sweater with canada across the front.
Mountie pants
Canada Goose!
My bunnyhug!
Wool socks with the red band around the top.
Broad-brimmed Leather Fedora ! ! !
Smoking Lily!
Plaid lumberjack jackets and hats with fur and ear flappers!
Being a Canadian living abroad, I would have to say that the are to items of “Canadian clothing” that instantly identifies any wearer as Canadian, the first; A Hockey Jersey. The second; MEC Jackets.
My MEC middle layer running hoodie!!
My Naked and Famous Jeans
Denim fabric from Japan, but everything else done in the good ol’ U.S. of Canada.

My Roots sweatshirt from the Olympics!
ps If you’re going to be a stickler, and the Roots apparel isn’t strictly made in Canada, then I’d have to go with my Tilley hat. I have a grey wool one I wear in winter and I love it.
My Roots hoodie (which the tag says WAS made in Canada), mostly because I wore it around Vancouver during the Olympics and generally had a grand time, high fiving people and whatnot.
My favorite ‘designed in Canada’ item: my beautiful Fluevogs.
Well you mentioned my favourite already with Sanfield’s underwear. But I would like to recommend a Gold Standard product Pasu Farms https://www.pasu.com/about.html . They raise sheep and make a variety of sheepskin products. With this challenge being in February maybe you should pick up a Sheepskin hat to keep warm but I don’t think that it will help when you have to dress up.
Just thought of another one. Mellow Walk https://www.mellowwalk.com/ . I wear mine every day. They are durable and comfortable.
Clothes [by Muriel Dombret] Designed & Manufactured in Canada. Not only are these virtuous, but they’re timelessly stylish.
I have one of Muriel’s boiled wool wraps that is perfect for Canadian winters — either under a coat in Ottawa, or as is in Vancouver.

my Tilley hats – keeps the west coast rain from pouring down the back of your neck and keeps the spectacles out of the rain.
Tough Duck work wear. It is made in Manitoba and is great work wear for all Canadian seasons.
The tuque, mostly because it’s a term only used in Canada. When ever I live abroad and say tuque no one ever knows what I’m talking about.
No doubt about it, I’m a Tilley fan, and my favourite (at this moment) is my grey LT6M. Who can go wrong with such a nice hat!
My lon blue long underwear made by Stanfields. Keeps the cold away!!!
I LOVE MY TILLEY UNDERWEAR, SAVES ME LOTS OF SPACE WHEN TRAVELLING, AND THEY ARE THE MOST COMFORTABLE EVER. WELL WORTH THE MONEY…….
I have a leather wrist band from a designer in Montreal which I love
Custom cut!
I would have to say traditional deerhide mocassins. Or the infamous Hudson’s Bay wool coat – like the one Ron MacLean wore in Whitehorse during Hockey Day in Canada!
My Roots clogs — I own two pair!
My knitted hat, made by me with local wool!
I agree with Jason…my Tilley hat is a necessity.
It’s owned here (sadly not made here) but Orb is as West Coast and stylin’ as can be! I probably wear at least one piece every day. My hubby looks pretty awesome in his Arson too
My Team Canada jersey!
My Toronto Blue Jays ballcap!!
My hand made scarf bought at the One of a Kind show in Toronto.
My Alex Burrows jersey. Go Canucks Go!
My hockey sweater. I bought it when the World Women’s Hockey Championship was held in Halifax in 2004. Canada beat the USA 2-0 to win gold. The jersey is good for almost any Canadian event, sport or otherwise, in fashion year round. One drawback, it was manufactured in Korea.
My SO has a beautiful Amauti, which is a traditional Inuit parka with a baby carrying pouch built into the back. This one was made in Manitoba, I believe, and has real fur trim.
My red toque, which is in the shape of a Maple Leaf!
My sasquatch socks!!
(fuzzy warm Canadian-made)
What? No one mentioned mittens? I will.
my Roots eyeglasses
MEC polartec long-sleeve shirt. Made in Canada, 91% recycled material, and most of all, comfortable.
my winter parka! it keeps me toasty and warm
Lillie & Cohoe black wool cap!
My Tilley hat!
My Stanfields. They keep me warm and look lumber jack stylin’ yet I don’t get strange looks for being a female and wearing them.
